FINNISH UNIVERSITY NETWORK FOR TOURISM STUDIES (FUNTS)

The Finnish University Network for Tourism Studies (FUNTS) was initiated in the autumn of 1995. It is based on the agreement between 16 Finnish universities. With its multidisciplinary approach it is considered a pioneer in the field, even in international terms. The coordinating unit of FUNTS is the Centre for Tourism Studies of the University of Joensuu in Savonlinna.

The objective of the network university is to unite through networking research and education in tourism studies of the member universities. The students from the member universities are admitted into the network programme in tourism studies. The students will graduate from their own universities and receive a master's degree in their major with an orientation towards tourism studies.

FUNTS offers courses for PhD-students doing their research on tourism. The Summer School also welcomes PhD-students from foreign universities. The aim of the annual enrolment is that the students accepted to the programme represent a diversified range of disciplines.
