THE STRUCTURE OF THE FUNTS' STUDIES

Teaching is carried out through the university network and participants are students of the member universities. Each member university confirms the curriculum of tourism studies annually. In this way, tourism studies become a part of the university’s own curriculum and also support the teaching in the university. The network studies can include courses already included in the curricula of the member universities’ departments.

The tourism studies included in the curriculum of the university network are divided into Basic, Subject and Advanced Studies. In addition, there are courses aimed at postgraduate students. Students can include the tourism studies they have completed in the university network in their Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree either as a minor subject or integrated with other studies.

Students’ major subject courses in their own universities form a basis for FUNTS studies. The goal in FUNTS is that as many university network students as possible get permission from their professors to write their MA theses about a subject concerning tourism. Students graduate either with a Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in subjects such as economics, agriculture and forestry or social sciences. The studies provide students with skills to work as experts in tourism or in managerial positions in the field.

Basic Studies are offered as net courses. Each year 90 new students can be accepted through an application prosess in May. The basic studies (25 ECTS) start in September.

Subject and Advanced Studies (25 to 40 ECTS) include,in addition to the net course, also an intensive course of two to three days at one of the university campuses or at a tourism destination. Each year 40 students are accepted to subject studies after having completed the basic studies (or completing them at the moment of application). Subject studies start in February.

Anyone wishing to participate in FUNTS has to have an official verification of the attendance at the own university and of the inclusion of the studies either into a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (accepted by the institution, faculty or similar). The verification can be a personal study plan, or its equivalent, into which FUNTS studies are incorporated.
